Excellence in Sonography Award Winners 2022
Henry Suarez, RDMS (AB, OB/GYN, PS), RVT
Leader in Sonography
Henry exhibits what an excellent educator, clinical instructor, and co-worker should be. He is well-versed in many areas of sonography and explains things in a very simplistic, easy-to-understand way. Quick-witted and easy to relate to, he appeals to both seasoned and new sonographers alike. When you have been in this field for many years, it's hard to admit when you don't know something. But that is where we grow as sonographers, so it's refreshing to see a seasoned sonographer show this. He is funny and relatable which makes his content even better.
Cheyenne Scheu, RDMS (AB, OB/GYN)
Rising Star
Cheyenne graduated in November 2020 and took her first OB job at a low-risk clinic that wasn't able to train her. She worked to teach herself and proceeded to catch anomalies including TAR syndrome, tethered cord, right-sided aortic arch, schizencephaly, cleft lip/palate, open spina bifida, adrenal mass, and agenesis of the corpus callosum. Unfortunately, a breast cancer diagnosis took her away from work for a while, but after chemo, she resumed a full schedule, taking lunch hours to complete follow-up treatments and physical therapy. The clinic’s MFM doctor hopes to train her in high-risk soon. Her dedication to her patients and her passion for OB sonography is admirable, and she is an inspiring fellow sonographer.
MaryBeth Tomory, BS, RDMS (AB, OB/GYN), FE
Influencer
Marybeth continually improves not only her skills, but the skills of those she works with—including fellow sonographers, physicians, and assistants. Her desire to share her knowledge led her to public speaking engagements at West Coast Ultrasound Institute and prompted her to build social media accounts dedicated to ultrasound education. These include @sonoeyesultrasound on Instagram and @sono.eyes on TikTok, which boast 13,100 followers and 4,600 followers, respectively. She plays an important role in educating the community, whether through articles or personal experiences. She is fun and makes learning new things exciting!
Brandy Sundberg, BS, RT(R), RDMS
Community Servant
Brandy has served as Lead Perinatal Sonographer at an MFM for two decades and recently accepted a position at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she passes on her knowledge to future generations. She is also a certified Yoga Medicine Instructor, CEO of Calmstrong, LLC., and host of The Yoga Grace Podcast. She has volunteered her time to provide educational lectures, taught in-person yoga sessions at the SDMS Annual Conference, contributed to The Essential Guide on Yoga, and was recently invited to speak with elite military professionals about the health benefits of mindfulness. Her compassionate demeanor, professionalism, and kindhearted personality are only a few of the characteristics that make her an outstanding human.
Megan Meade, RDMS (AB, OB/GYN), RDCS (FE)
Innovator
Megan saw a gap in sonographer education and created an entire company to fill it. Viable Solutions LLC helps students, OB sonographers, and MFM sonographers gain fetal heart education. As a fetal echo education consultant, Megan provides guest lectures or in-office, hands-on training. The ability to recognize congenital heart defects in pregnancy brings about better outcomes for the sonographer, the perinatologist, the obstetrician, the patient, and the baby. Bridging the gap of this education means so much to sonographers who want to give better quality to their fetal heart studies.
Jeanine Rybyinski, AAS, RDMS, RVT
Team Player
Jeanine is always willing to pitch in and help with any task—training, accreditation, picking up extra shifts—and does not look for any credit. She thoroughly loves her career and it shows in her interactions with both patients and team members, as she sets a great example for new sonographers to emulate. She has also recently started lecturing and is a phenomenal speaker, providing lectures at local and national conferences. She is also a regular attendee at these kinds of events, where she is eager to share what she has learned.
