Objectives:

  • Provide a brief review of renal anatomical variants and nodules​ which may mimic a renal neoplasm.​

  • Present the Bosniak classification system of renal cystic masses,​ providing a knowledge base for sonographers who follow up CT ​discovered lesions with ultrasound imaging.​

  • Outline the appearance and clinical implications of various cystic renal lesions.​

  • Review the ultrasound characteristics, clinical presentations, and ​prognosis of common benign and malignant solid renal masses.
