Objectives:

  • Provide a review of upper extremity arterial and venous​ anatomy, with both diagrams and ultrasound imaging.

  • Outline a protocol for the pre-operative assessment of ​vascular access for dialysis fistula creation or graft ​placement (a.k.a. vessel mapping) and review the ​qualifying criteria for each.

  • Explain the most common types of fistulas and grafts that sonographers may encounter, as well as possible complications, and how to evaluate them during imaging.​
