Objectives:

  • Present an overview of the incidence of thyroid nodules versus clinically significant malignancies and the diagnostic and treatment challenges that promoted the development of thyroid nodule classification systems.

  • Explain the ACR TI-RADS thyroid nodule classification system, providing ultrasound examples of each imaging characteristic and nodule category.

  • Compare the ACR TI-RADS points-based classification approach to pattern-based classification systems, specifically K - TIRADS.

  • Outline the imaging zones of the cervical lymph nodes and review the ultrasound of benign and suspicious nodes.
